Volunteering at The Health Library

Volunteers play a major role in The Health Library. From technical assistance in the preparation of library materials to working with patrons as they search for answers, the 100 volunteers at The Health Library make it possible for us to provide each patron with the help they desire.

Volunteers who work as Library Reference Associates receive training by the medical librarian and may attend other special classes such as internet researching and Medline classes. The requirements for a Library Reference Associate Volunteer are:

  • College degree or equivalent

  • One year commitment to a weekly shift

  • Computer literacy, experience with search tools

  • Willingness to attend on-going training sessions

  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and on the telephone

  • Professional appearance and strong commitment to community service
